Katja Sallay wurde in Budapest geboren und kam mit 3 Jahren nach Deutschland. Mit 16 hat sie sich eine S-VHS Kamera gekauft und ihren 1. Kurzfilm gedreht.

Ein Praktikum bei Pille Filmgeräteverleih Wiesbaden während der Schule machte klar: es geht zum Film. Mit 19 studierte sie in Berlin kurz Germanistik, Philosophie und Hungarologie in Berlin,

bis sie bei ARRI Berlin ein Kamera Praktikum machte und von dort schnell ans Set kam. Sie war 2. Kameraassistenz u.a. bei amerikanischen Produktionen; mit 20 war sie 1. AC bei Kino, TV und Werbung.

Ihre Liebe galt jedoch immer der Regie und so ging sie nach Los Angeles, ans Lee Strasberg Film & Theatre Institute, eigentlich um zu lernen, wie man mit Schauspielern arbeitet,

wo man ihr ein 4-Jahres- Stipendium für Schauspiel gab. Hat sie natürlich gemacht. Und ihre Liebe und ihr Talent zum Spiel entdeckt.

Nach der Schauspielschule bekam sie in Wien die Hauptrolle der „ALMA" unter Paulus Manker, die sie 9 Jahre lang gespielt hat und arbeitet seitdem als Schauspielerin für Kino und TV und vielfach als Hörbuchsprecherin. Ihr Skript „5 Seasons – eine Reise" war der Grundstein zu ihrem Spielfilmdebüt… als Regisseurin. Aktuell schreibt sie an ihrem nächsten Kinofilm.
